After 2 days the winners are: STL, HOU, SF
STL and SF had 4 and 5 picks to work with but they defiantly helped their roster with those picks.
HOU had premium picks but they did not disappoint in their selections.
STL - With their 1st 2 picks they likely have the most physically imposing trenches in the league now. Especially the DL, which will look like a Panzer force breaking through the front all game long. I believe Tre Mason was a great pick in that for as good as Stacy is Mason is better at those same things. He still needs to prove his metal in the passing game (blocking, catching) but when it comes to being that durable runner that wears the defense down and breaks a few longer gains in the 4th quarter, Mason is an upgrade. The Joyner pick was a good one in that he is versatile and he is a top flight athlete.
SF - I believe their best pick was Brandon Thomas. They are one of a couple teams that can afford to red shirt a player because of their depth and they got a 1st round talent here. Ward, Hyde, and Martin make them better right now and Borland fills a gap left with Bowman's injury. Hyde is the interesting player here. Gore is obviously slowing down, Lattimore was a red shirt and Hunter has proved to be effective. But Hyde fits what the 9ers want to do with some upside. He isnt the most talented back in the draft (that would be Crowell, by a wide margin), but he is an out of the box strong option who could help them win today.
HOU - The most puzzling pick could be Fiedorowicz until you see that Bill OBrien was the OC at NE when they brought in Gronk and Ahern. I still see Ryan Griffin as the guy with the most upside of the 3 TE they have now (Fiedorowicz, Griffin, Graham), but the base set is a 12 personnel with a QB ready to make the call at the line making room for all 3. Clowney is the big take, Su'a-Filo wil be a big push in the running game, and trading in front of AZ to pick up Nix was masterful. It was obvious that was AZ's pick when hey spent their entire clock then picked a player with upside (John Brown), but that they could have gotten 1 or 2 rounds later... plus they already have 2 big time wide outs with one in the wings that proved he can play last year (Jarron Brown). I guess they like WRs named Brown.
Notable mention - MIN - Barr is boom/bust, Bridgewater will be effective but might not ever be more then that, Crichton was a solid pick, and McKinnon doesnt have a position. That said all 4 of these guys make the team better right now with a ton of upside if put in a position to succeed.
