just try the ability to delete off topic or troll postings for a month and see how it works, at least.

you can always change it back. and you can make a special forum for self moderated topics to segregate them if you want. that way there is no trickery, people know what they are getting into when they join the topic

I'm with uber on this one. Making a thread allows you to decide how the discussion will start. It doesn't give you the right to dictate how it will develop as others join the conversation.

This has nothing to do with new members. The new people are holding their own fine and the trolling they are getting isn't partisan, it's from people like you who accuse them of being socks with no evidence. It's just you complaining because most of your threads backfire when your false assertions crash into reality.

Ubers right. If you want to drown out all dissenting voices you should get a blog. When you post here, get ready to be challenged. A lot of the posters here have said their critical thinking has really been strengthened by subjecting themselves to the rigorous scrutiny of defending a position on this forum.

the sad reality is there are hundreds of boring threads that have been trolled to death and not much discussion of substance. thats why this forum has little traffic

no one joins a political discussion forum to read inane crap like phillies lists etc or a bunch of trolling

as I said make a section for self moderated topics and people who don't want to join moderated discussion don't have to join. there's nothing to lose by trying it and potentially everything to gain.

We lose free exchange of ideas. Once this option is available it becomes a crutch. Why strengthen your argument when you can just delete anything that challenges your position?
