Conservative use to pretty much mean 'fiscal conservative'..
Now? The conservatives of today talk a great fiscal conservative, keep the government out of my life talk.. But the reality is in most cases they are less fiscal conservative than liberals. Except for the SOCIAL issues they don't like every budget they've humped over the past 4-5 years increased spending..
And their security and law and order spiel is just a way to give MORE control to the government via the NSA and the Patriot Act, etc..
Now conservative mostly means how you stand on social issues, God, guns and gays. With a terrorist bogeyman behind every door to help keep their sheep in line.
The days of true fiscal conservatives are loooong gone.

Social conservatism is dying very quickly. The two remaining sides of social politics are going to be proactive socially progressive and the social libertarians.
