Have we ever had a POTUS as simple minded and malleable as Bush before? Maybe Reagan. I dunno how much Reagan rested on his advisers input so I can't speak to that as a comparison.

That's rhe difference thoigh. Most presidents are packing serious intellectual firepower and are curious. They listen to their advisers bit have the capxity to push deeper and make decisions on their own. To question assumptions and adopt their own worldview.

Bush is a good man, but an intellectual juggernaut he is not. I think he was probably like "this looks pretty complicated. Dick, any input here? Oh, fancy big words. Okay, don, make it happen. I'm gonna go read some of those reports yiu wrote thst have nice motivational bible quotes on them."

Yeah Bush was definitely smarter than Reagan. I think Reagan is a good analogy. They both kind of weren't particularly interested in policy details but they had both bought into a broad world view and trusted those around them to make it so. That's why Reagan's whitehouse was still pretty much functional when he was senile.
