Guys, let's not forget that support of the Iraq war has turned negative only since 2007. Up to that point, support for the war was evenly split, or even in favor of the war. I'm not saying that it was a good war - most people (me included) agree that it should have been avoided. My point is that, at the time it was begun, people viewed it as the right thing to do.
Much as one could point to several events during the expansion of the Roman Empire as leading to its eventual downfall, those events made sense and were supported at the time they took place.
While retrospectively blaming Bush et al for Iraq is an entertaining pastime, it's ultimately unproductive unless viewed in the light of "how do we prevent this mistake in the future".
