Yeah populism in America has largely been a mix of well meaning but sometimes misguided economic causes and tyrannical social movements.

Yeah, there still isn't any actual arguments there. They are just attributing everything bad to direct democracy and the various ballot initiatives, without bothering to actually prove they are what caused the problems. I'm actually surprised that Galt would use that as evidence, because there isn't any evidence in it at all.

the population of the state has exploded and it has limited means to provide the things it is mandated to provide year over year. 50% being off the table for discussion AND you limit the amount that can come in? and you need 75% to approve tax increases? lol good f**k luck. it's asking for disaster. which they got, and then they elected a disaster action hero to try to save them

They are not too polarized they are nearly indistinguishable. it "solves problems" by pushing through feel good stuff that people don't have the time to fully grok the full consequences of. this is why we elect people that understand it more than you do. having a bunch of ultracrepidarians easily influenced by minority factions deciding shit is about the absolute worst thing we could do

Galt illustrated how it caused the problem. Until we have actual instances of it fixing the problem I don't think you have a solid case.

the people will not vote themselves out of power in direct democracy if they make some horrible mistake, but they can vote out individuals. the people are not accountable for their actions, in other words, even when they f**k up. which they will do, repeatedly.

making unpopular decisions sometimes needs to happen. with direct democracy it CAN'T HAPPEN
