As someone that works minimum wage for a fast food chain (all be it in a different country), no we do not make bank.

My point was that you should not use OT as a basis to say "He makes lots of money". Especially police officers. If an officer makes $20/hour, what does he make in OT working a detail? Would you say $30? Well, you'd be wrong. Often, an off-duty officer is paid far more than time-and-a-half.

That's not time-and-a-half . . . that's time-and-FOUR-halves! Or, 3x his salary.

Now, take that figure and apply it to your minimum wage McDonalds job. Instead of making $7.50/hr, you are making $22.50/hr.

I'd say that anyone making that kind of money, outside of having a valued technical expertise, doesn't really deserve it. They may be able to exploit market demand to get a higher salary, and there are cases when the scale of the organization warrants that level of compensation, but those instances are rare and already overvalued.

My sister is the lead fundraiser for the Canadian Cancer Society, she raises more money for them then anyone in the country doing the same things (she handles school fundraisers), and her salary is a fraction of that. So it makes me wonder why a guy whose primary job is networking should make more.

I work plenty more than my contract states is my minimum but I don't get paid any extra per hour for it. I did over 50 hours a couple of weeks ago when my minimum is 16. So I'm a bit unsure as to how overtime over there works.

That being said if my hourly wage went up for overtime I wouldn't be given the extra hours in the first place.
