I can really go either way on this issue. I do think when parents have choices they will usually choose in the best interest of their child and a voucher system does theoretically increase these types of parent choices. What I fear happening is public schools will become nothing but a place for the dregs of society.

I'd also like to point out, most of the private school voucher programs out there are intended for special needs kids or kids in rural areas without a nearby school. Some states offer to low income students (sometimes loosely defined like in Wisconsin). I don't mind the former at all and think most people wouldn't.
I believe only 2 states have ever had a general population voucher program. One was in Louisiana which was a resounding failure. FFS they had to stop accepting new students at numerous schools because they were doing so poorly!
