Healthcare cannot be left to the market, it produces extreme market failure. Your health is so vital that the market will tolerate prices well above the cost of care. If you have cancer and it costs 50,000 to treat...would you not pay a million dollars to avoid dying? You can charge just about anything for healthcare because it's that important. We need the state to step in and cap prices in a reasonable manner, because insurance companies do not have that sort of power. This ain't my theory, it's basic economics. Everyone else realizes this and they have heavy government involvement in the healthcare system and they get comparable outcomes for a fraction of the cost.
