I have 4 external HDD here at the house that range from 1.5tb to 2.5tb in size and all were below $250. As a former soldier I do have experience working for a government agency, and everything was certainly backed up onsite and off. Every keystroke I entered was monitored and important files stored. Whilst in Korea I was maybe a 15min drive from the border with the North. Any communication was considered sensitive, even a phone call back home. You couldn't tell your folks where you were, who you were with, what you did on base, etc. not a damn thing. Same for emails. You could be asking the commander how many people were attending an event we were supplying catering for. You better ask vaguely and in no way let out where the function is. If the DoD has it I have to imagine the IRS does too. They most def have my tax filings going back 10-12 years.
