I'm new to this site, so I hope this gets posted in the proper place, regarding info on voucher programs. I was speaking about past proposals that I've heard about and since I don't have any school age children, I'm not up to date on existing programs. The one's I've heard discussed years ago usually follow a general format: Let's say the public school spends $12,000 per year per student. The parent receives a voucher for $8,000 (for example), which, at the time was enough to pay the tuition for many private schools. Although the $8,000 comes out of the public schools budget, they still get credit and funds for the student who's left the school, so the public school still keeps $4,000 for a student who is no longer taking up space and resources in the public school. I've haven't looked into current proposals, so the amounts many have changed, but the basic idea is the same.
