It's because Christianity and social conservatism are closely tied to the Republican party, ergo a fight against Christianity is seen as a fight against Republicanism by some on the left. Islam is just as socially conservative, yet there aren't enough Muslims in the US for them to be a voting bloc and/or be commonly associated with a one of the major parties, so they don't take as much grief in public for some of the shit they try and pull. Islam's most vocal opponent also happens to be Christian Republicans, so no way are some on the left ever going to agree with Republicans on anything. In the end, it's all politics.
