Not really. There has been plenty of ceasefires and decent intervals with no violence. During that time Israel expands. The entire point of the exercise is to ensure that the political process can't move forward.
Sure, the Palestinians could do nothing, maybe they could stand still and let the Israeli soldiers beat them, pull a Gandhi as you and Clancy say. But that won't stop Israel from simply expanding anyways. They'd simply disperse the protest and move on, and them somebody in the Palestinians will break rank and engage in violence.
Expecting anyone to do what Gandhi and cohorts did is ridiculous. Different world.
