They would only be divided for state matters. Six legislatures, six governors, etc. Lots of issues though if the feds don't recognize them as six different entities and want to to talk to the governor of a california.

This is bloody depressing. Between 1789 and 1960 the United States routinely added new states, even during the freaking Civil War we added 2....are you telling me that the Feds have gotten so disfunctional that we can't even ad states now?

But, we've never been faced with splitting an already-formed state into parts. We've divided territories and done similar things. But, never divided a state. I don't think...

Also Maine was part of Massachusetts until 1807.

Ahhh - high school US history. The only thing that I learned in that class was that, if I never studied and just payed attention in class, I could get a B. To get an A, I had to study like crazy. I ended up being very happy with a B.
