IMO I have no problem with people yelling racial slurs in public. As adults I am sure they know what sort of backlash will come their way and they should be able to face that backlash as adults.

This weekend, France has prohibited public political manifestations and demonstrations tied to the cartoons, causing a further perception of imbalance.

In other words, it is permissible to cause outrage against Muslims, but not okay for Muslims to react. Does anyone really believe that such a standard is sustainable?

You can have free speech but you cant riot about it. Sounds perfectly fine with me. When people join mobs they leave their brains behind.

React how? With violence, threats, vandalism, terror, murder, etc? As has happened in the past and is happening even as we speak?

If that's the reaction, then absolutely that standard is sustainable. Anything else is bonkers and self destructive. The French government would be derelict in their duty to the French people.

And yes, the people should be able to engage in non-violent free expression. Anything else is frankly immoral.

If the Muslim population in France cannot come to terms with free expression, I'm sure there is nothing preventing their emigration out from under the umbrella of French authority.

Human rights trump sensitivity.
