Why does it matter what would have happened two years ago? Why are you even talking about it, Philly?
We know what McConaughey is capable of. We know what Hathaway is capable of. They aren't even in the same ballpark. You might as well be saying "WELL WHO KNOWS MAYBE TOM CRUISE HAS SOME EPIC ACTING CHOPS HE JUST NEEDS THE RIGHT ROLE." No, because Tom Cruise plays Tom Cruise, and Anne Hathaway plays Anne Hathaway, and no role is going to change that.

Because we would have said the same thing about a much older actor 2 years ago that you're saying about Hathaway right now. Yet we all hold Matthew McConaughey in high regard just a couple years later. And since she's not been great in the past I don't blame you for not having any confidence in her but this film is an actual opportunity to do something non shitty. Actors reinvent themselves all the time. No one thought Jim Carey was built for serious roles when he was doing the mask and ace Ventura.
