See, the problem is that there is a double standard. The police don't want to be treated by the public in the in the same manner they treat the public.

However, they are public servants and not the other way around.

From what I've read, the police officer involved had severe facial lacerations and had to be hospitalized. So there is a chance this is much ado about nothing - although to be clear, this doesn't vindicate police response to the protests.

Well, civil unrest generally denotes that there is some sort of social problem going on. I don't know any other explanation for it.

It's got to be possible to figure out what it is and correct it.

Cops didn't release any information so they had time to get the story straight. They know the officer who shot him will be arrested at some point, and they want to manage the narrative surrounding that. Regardless of any robbery or altercation before hand, multiple witnesses are saying he had his hands up and wasn't fleeing when shot. That's something thats going to have to be sorted out and it should be sorted out in court.

This isn't much ado about nothing at all. You all completely miss the point. This isn't about saying what did or didn't happen. This is about recognizing there is a serious issue in question, and properly following up on that. Why do people have to riot to ensure something like this goes to trial? Why do people have to march for weeks to ensure the Trayvon incident went to trial? What ever happened in staten island with the cop who choked out that guy? No one rioted, or protested...and apparently nothing was done.

The issue isn't whether the shooting is justified or not. The issue is that despite it being completely unclear what happened, there is no confidence in any of these communities that a true and fair investigation into the incident will take place, unless people take to the street.

investigations take longer than a night, longer than weeks, longer than months
