It really depends upon the situation, as far as character. In this case I agree as it is a matter only of law and enforcement of law. However, in cases where character is brought in on one side, correcting it on the other side isn't out of line. In a world that runs by court of public opinion, if you let someone get officially designated as "victim", the other person becomes guilty by default.
