Obama's mistake wasn't pulling out of Iraq--we should have never even been there in the first place.

His mistake was abandoning it politically after he was elected; i.e., Bush had a working relationship with Maliki whereas Obama just kind of ignored him, wanting to be done with this whole Iraq thing. Which is not to say that Maliki would have been successful with more guidance from us, but too late now.

The reality is that we are back to 9/10, but this time with another group and we know who they are and what they want to do. Let's hope we do something about it. And that something isn't monumentally stupid like invading and occupying countries.

I've got a place to start. How about say, "What ISIS did to that journalist was reprehensible and vile. But, I don't believe that ISIS invaded the US and kidnapped him from a Smoothie King on Main St. He chose to be over there, knowing the risks (after all, he'd been held prisoner before). We will not be goaded into a war where we are sending thousands of Americans over there to die, because you have killed one journalist, no matter how sensationalist the killing was. Make no mistake, if you attack America, I can tell you that what we do have are a very particular set of skills, skills we have acquired over a very long history. Skills that make us a nightmare for people like you. If you leave us along now, that'll be the end of it. We will not look for you, we will not pursue you. But if you don't, we will look for you, we will find you, and we will kill you."

Or something to that affect that won't get you sued for copyright infringement.
