I don't get it, either. I will literally plan a vacation around meals. When we went to Chicago, I remember discussing what we were going to do one day. I think the suggestion was to go to the Lego Store out near O-Hare (like, 45 minutes out of town). I said that it wouldn't work, because I wanted to be back downtown in time to have lunch at an italian place that I'd read about. They said, "We'll just eat near the Lego Store; I'm sure there is something there."
Yeah, that's not how I travel. We went to the Lego store another day, and ate at my place.
My grandfather used to take road trips from one restaurant to another. He and his boss would drive up US 51 (before interstates) and go from one restaurant to another, until they got to Chicago. He even had a list of places he went from one of the trips. Awesome road trip!
