the reality of jewish conquest is a little less dramatic than what is portrayed by believers in various religious doctrines. Any conquering they may have done was over tribes of goat herders and other hill people as a motley collection of brigands, rebels and other outcasts that eventually coalesced into a minor society of a few city states. Basically they were a vassal state, first to the Egyptians, then the Babylonians, Persians, Greeks, and Romans. The Romans literally destroyed Israel in response to the Bar Kochba rebellions.
no one lived there for hundreds of years, the deforestration of the region is just now somewhat being recovered from the last couple of hundred years of colonization.
