these fighters are disillusioned with their current system and want to rejoin ours. so let them. there is already a process in place for deradicalization for this exact purpose so i think they probably will be allowed to return despite the opinion of the average american moron, who wants to think of themselves as a hard-ass and doesn't really know anything about whats happening.

I doubt they'll be put through that process. More likely, they'll be sent straight to prison.

I would be willing to look at it on a case-by-case basis, but any exceptions would be very, very rare. I have some sympathy for the younger ones who have clearly been subjected to brainwashing. But anyone over the age of 20 knows enough that I'd never want them back.

Terrorism, obviously. These guys weren't fighting with the FSA, who the West supports. They were fighting with groups that are recognized terrorist organizations.

this involves up to a fifth of the fighters so yes FSA fighters are part of it. Also if they are doing the same exact thing as groups we back it takes a suspension of objectivity to suppose it is terrorism when they do it but "supporting western interests in the region" when ww do it

besides they are uniformed and have officers so terrorism charges would be inappropiate

You act as if the hypocrisy of our value judgments will in any way make people accept the return of murderous extremists. It won't. We protect our murderous extremists and no one elses.

Refusing them entry back into the country is one option. However given the difficulty western intelligence agencies have had in recruiting Muslims a more beneficial option might be for them to operate as intelligence resources on a quid pro quo basis. Spend two years in the field and we will guarantee your freedom upon returning home. It won't be an option for all of those who want to return home but some of them may prove useful.
