I don't think anyone is really debating how bad and evil ISIS, Al Quaeda and these other groups are. The debate is why the U.S.? Why Europe? Why not let the gulf states and the regional powers deal with this problem? Why attack these militants and make our countries targets? Why waste further billions when we are trillions in debt?

There are larger geopolitical objectives here at work most surrounding control of oilfields and the ability to eventually build a pipeline through Iraq and Syria reducing EU dependence on Russian pipelines.

Would anyone else bother? Doubt it. Its expensive and politically damaging.

Personally I think we need to dig in our heels, cross our arms, and say no. Over and over until they get the message. But everyone else knows as well as we do that eventually we'll break down and just do it, and then they won't have to mess around with it. We do this to ourselves.

The biggest investor in Iraq's oil industry is China. How come they won't kick-in and take some scalps?

The only real reason were involved is because of our efforts in Iraq/ Afghanistan plus oil. I dont think letting the middle east fall to radical groups does the world any favors. Obama's speech was spot on about how the world needs to destroy these people. I'm 100% ok with that.

Normally I'd be against more military action in this region, but I do think there is a strong case for action against ISIS being a just war.
Not because they are a threat to the US or UK (of course they're not), but because they are truly barbaric. They are basically religious NAZIS. Sure we could stand back and do nothing as this group attempts religious genocide and crucifies civilians, but what would that make us? "The only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing".
