I've been exploring hermeticism of late and what I've realized about it is that it is a form of buddhism, that must have reached the hellenic world somehow and informed the mystery religions. This was combined with egyptian beliefs during the ptolemaic period. which then became alchemy in the middle ages, which became science in the modern age, which lead to quantum physics which are currently proving the most ancient conceptions of the structure of reality and the nature of the universe are not incorrect

you know, i'd always heard that the satanic ritual abuse wave of the 80s/90s was mass hysteria and that there was no documented cases

these guys seem more like a religious pedophile ring looking for any excuse to explain what they did. if they say they were satanists they can say they were possessed by an evil force instead being manipulators who made the decision to abuse people. also seemed like the beliefs of the police officer they gave their confessions to may have influenced the color of the proceedings as well.

he said he prayed with them. so it's kind of giving them a feeling of reduced culpability in exchange for a confession so i wonder if the claim of being a "satanist" really means anything in a philosophical sense.

another thought on the nature of satanism in comparison with other religious/philosophical beliefs

religious philosophy at its basis is a study of the nature of human consciousness. most religions seek reintegration of the individual consciousness back into a cosmic whole but there is a religious stream that does not seek the cessation of individual consciousness, and indeed sets out to transform the individual consciousness into a divinity.

since many religions have become basically methods of social control this type of radical individualism is seen as "evil".

however exploring the limits of human potential requires transcending traditional social controls
