i dont think you can fix the isis problem by giving alms to the poor. perhaps the cartel problem, but there are fundamental differences between catholisim (mexico is almost all catholic) and islam.

bishops don't behead apostates for one large difference. and i don't know that any catholic would approve of such a punishment -- or any punishment for that matter -- for such people. i won't say none though. but basically none.

Well ISIS kills cops and the cartels recruit cops and soldiers to be professional killers.

We'll have to wait until ISIS has been in business as long as the cartels to know which one is worse if body count is the metric.

Cartels have way more money. And they buy government while isis kills everyone indiscriminately, they're equal opportunity murderers.

The Mafia in this country bought cops, judges and politicians.. They didn't kill them.. It seems like the drug cartels are using the same game plan HERE.. So HERE, in the US, I don't see how right NOW either are a threat. ISIS because of the distance, Cartels because they don't want to get into a war with the US government, that's bad for business..

But to Americans in the ME, obviously ISIS is a greater threat.. And unfortunately it looks like more and more Americans are going to be sent over there to 'keep the peace'..

BTW I'm looking at this as just a threat to Americans.. Obviously both are serious threats to the citizens and people in their home countries.

Why would they get in a war with someone they're in bed with. It's a symbiotic relationship. They're objective allies.

the cartels need for drugs to be illegal or the price drops dramatically and their territorial monopolies lose their advantages.

The DEA, etc. get to stay in business with billions from taxpayers if the cartels are in business. Then there's the prison business as a side project.

ISIS, not so much. Not until they have control of enough oil, anyway. But who knows how they might branch out.

Not only were the beheadings by ISIS a HUGE mistakes by them, by video taping the beheadings and bragging about them?? WTF?

That's beyond dumb. They needlessly put a bulls-eye on their backs.. They went from a fringe group that most of the world ignored and in some cases was rooting for because they were fighting Assad... To #1 on the world's most wanted list.

The US left an army of 485k trained soldiers and hardware. If they're so useless and gutless that they can't stand up to 31.5 k isis, what exactly is being defended? the right to be chicken shits?

Not fair to call the rank and file chicken shits. They mostly said, "f**k this!" after their officers became ridiculously corrupt and flatly bailed on them when it became clear they might have to actually fight someone. The failure of the Iraqi military was top-down. More than a leadership deficit, more like a leadership vacuum.
