why would syrian farmers be any better than trained professionals if we just gave them guns

we started arming muslim extremists in the eighties, they were literally goat herders before we decided to have them do our dirty work and gave them advanced weaponry to fight the soviets

if it weren't for our efforts to intervene in things that aren't any of our business they would still be using british enfields. some of the early mujahadeen were literally using muskets to fight the soviets lol

The smart solution is to cut and run. There is no point dumping what will be trillions into the ME for an uncertain result.

Yeah I saw Panetta on the Daily Show. Stewart asked him about keeping troops in Iraq, he said he would have kept a small amount of American troops there, he thought pulling them all out was a mistake by Obama.. Then Stewart him about the Security agreement the Iraqis refused to sign which meant we had to totally pull out. Panetta said he thought we had leverage to make them sign, specifically by withholding military assistance, and not selling them arms, etc..

So us leaving weakened Iraq( because he thought the Iraqi Army and security wasn't ready to be on it's own), but as 'leverage' we should have refused them military assistance? Which would have weakened Iraq more.. Sounds contradictory to me..

But he has a book to sell.
