I had NO love for Saddam, who could? He was a vicious dictator who deserves to burn in hell.
BUT lets face it, taking him out has turned out to be a huge mistake. It's left a power vacuum. And unfortunately that vacuum is now TRYING to be filled by us. So yeah, we're stuck there for quite away. 30 years might be a good estimate.

Panetta is a Vietnam era intelligence analyst, so basically speaking, we haven't progressed beyond the dumb political thinking of the vietnam era. unless you want to consider something like no longer advertising enemy kill counts as progress.
