a seller working a gun show can't sell a firearm without a back ground check

private citizens can sell a firearm to whoever they want without a back ground check whether they meet at home, a gas station, a bookstore. they can even do it at a gun show in the parking lot, if they hide it from the people putting on the event, who will ask them not to do it and probably make them leave the premises if they persist, just to avoid legal hassles.

ergo, there is really no such thing as a "gunshow loophole" to close. them there's weasel words

what you really want is to ban private sales of firearms without a background check

does that make sense?

Surely Indy agrees that cars, being much more dangerous than guns, should not be allowed to be sold privately without proof of insurance, a clean driving record and a license.

Indy we're coming back the premise that the NRA is evil because they are good at their jobs. Don't like it? compete. The anti-gun crowd has more billionaires.

problem you will always run into is that even if the majority of Americans favored more gun control a highly influencial minority of voters don't and they feel much more strongly about it.

They aren't gagging people. It's like you said, non, they are good at what they do. As a consequence, elected officials don't want it with them and tend to avoid pissing them off.

Nobody's answering my question: if their position is so solid why the need to intimidate those who don't agree with them into silence or acceptance?

It's one thing if they don't want to tolerate dissent from within but another when they're imposing that dictate on our elected leaders from both parties--or even people that having nothing to do with gun laws, like the Surgeon General.
