But the other end game here is what's happened already--thread-killing. When you can steer it off-topic and into a referendum on the poster personally, the discussion gets crushed, and it devolves into a endless back-and-forth usually shut down by the mods or abandoned by those who were initially interested because it's no longer anywhere near on topic.
