The ONLY silver lining I think about ISIS drawing people from all over the world--teens or not--is that they should be easy to infiltrate.

I get the disaffected teen thing, but what happened to joining the goths or the stoner kids. Flying around the world to join a bunch of murderers and rapists committing genocide while imposing Islam or death? WTF?

i don't think it's a problem to "infiltrate" isis because isis isn't a typical terrorist organization. they fancy themselves a state and they control a lot of territory directly

as for kids joining... it's bizarre but, some people want to live life on their knees. islam or, "submission", is pretty much the place to be if you want a life of subservancy. a group that wants to make some pure caliphate devoted to this notion? they go sign up for that. it's too bad, they could have lived life as a sub, and i would have been happy to help them. but no, they have to go throw their life away to go be a breeder for allah or whatever

Well, like I said, I get joining goths, stoners, Scientology, some whacky church--whatever you think will make you feel accepted.

But probably the most abhorrent organization in our lifetime, from any point of view, that specializes in slaughtering innocents, rape and slavery?

I mean: I've heard of getting back at your parents by acting out but sheeeeeeeeet...

Anyway, what should our gov't be doing about this, if anything? I realize it's a drip in the bucket right now relatively speaking but if it's going on all over the world where these guys are building a fan base we should probably be on it.

Consider the idea that what if it's not flying to Syria to join jihad, but pulling a Columbine for Allah. That's where it gets scary. How much time did we spend trying to figure out the Columbine a-holes' motive whereas here the motive is already out in the open.

ISIS wants to make a caliphate. i didn't think they'd really do any terrorism in the west because simply they don't want the west involved, at least, not until it's ready to talk to deliver them a declaration of war for the reconquest of andalusia. perhaps now that we are involved to some extent they would use terroristic acts as a form or waging war of attrition against the people's will but they really dont have the capability to do any amount of real harm to us. and we don't even know if the people in canada were acting under orders or on their own in support of ISIS. they do have the will and power to make their caliphate though

You're asking how we get western kids not to join, yet you've already said it: there is absolutely no reasonable way to explain a western kid joining. Those who do join are not acting rationally. How do we get all teenagers to behave rationally? That isn't possible.

something like 85% of the people in egypt support beheading people for apostasy. once you recognize this, you realize why people don't even view these things that ISIS does as morally heinous but rather morally just. we in the west have a hard time comprehending it, because our most hardcore religious extremists that reject modern society raise barns on monday, and soon they'll raise a'nudder. they don't behead people. and certianly the overwhelming majority of people in the west are against such actions.
