Well... The biggest concern that I have is that this incident is going to change our institutional openness. Not sure if you've ever been to Ottawa, but you can just walk right into Parliament. It isn't uncommon to see pretty important people walking to work, drinking at a pub, etc. The Hill is renowned for being accessible to the public, and I'd hate to see that changed.

I'm personally not all that angry. Most people I've spoken with are pretty nonchalant about it... In the end there is very little we can do about it, and nothing compares to 9-11... Pretty much we are jaded, and due to systematic government mismanagement, even if we wanted to make a big response, our military doesn't have the resources it needs.

Kevin Vickers. 29 year RCMP veteran, Sergeant-at-arms. That mace, by the way, is a traditional weapon that the Sergeant-at-arms carries. It is intended to symbolize the Sergeants willingness to break the heads of any threatening person, foreign and domestic, for f**k with our elected officials.
