the closest nation to power projection of the united states is france (only other nation with nuclear aircraft carrier, biggest active military in europe outside of russia, and one of three nations with the US and UK that has an actual blue water navy) and we make fun of them for being surrender monkies. canada has the benefit/curse of being america's hat, and america having the largest power projection by an order of magnitude over everybody else, it's easy for them to be comfortable and just ride america's coat tails. europeans do this and they are an ocean away, they love being able to whine about problems and then whine when america tries to fix them even though they wanted them to do it all along

Yeah, it is a huge problem. Were it my decision, I would double the amount of funding the Canadian military receives. Exploited as Prime Minister goals:

1. A powerful but small force able to deploy independently anywhere in the world, and capable of supporting themselves for at least 90 days. I would personally want this to be completely independent of our conventional armed force, so it wouldn't get bogged down in the bureaucracy.

2. Some power projection capabilities, which means a real navy and buying new planes that aren't the F35.

3. Huge increases in Arctic patrolling and monitoring. Even if Russia could objectively prove that the area rightfully belongs to them, tough shit, those Communist f**k aren't getting it. I want to be able to f**k them right up, on our own, if we need too.

4. A small number of ICBMS. Perhaps twenty or thirty, hidden in secret underground lairs across our vast, beautiful country.

5. The invasion and liberation of Alaska. Okay so maybe not this one but I want it.

it's power projection of course in so many ways, but being off the US Navy's shuttle service would help. the us navy is bigger than the next 13 navies combined in terms of tonnage. that's not even counting technological advancements

the subsidies of western nations militaries ends up having the us with a massive military budget, and we ensure peace and prosperity for all and other countries can spend their money on their own citizens since the us is spending money on their protection. people scoff at this but really, the pax americana isn't without cost but it's been so long since a real war people think that militaries aren't needed. but mobiolization and buildup by a baddie could happen within a few months and one must be prepared. it's like the world collectively wanted this. they wanted someone to play referee but they didn't want to surrender ultimate power (a world government) so we go this US monster that is both loved and reviled

i would love for the us to stop subsidizing everyone. but i don't know if everybody in washington trusts zee germans. i know i don't, i'd spy on them too
