I don't think we in the western world have responsibility to try to help people who are unwilling and unable to improve their own societies. The problems in the developing world are not as much a product of colonialism as much as they are the product of bad institutions and an incapable populace.

I think it is undeniable that western civilization is superior to other less rational, less capable, civilizations. I don't think other peoples are necessarily capable of becoming westernized in the sense they can form functional societies. The arabs think by build glittering cities and starting airlines with their oil money they are modern countries. But everyone knows they are backward heathens whose oil would still be under thousands of feet of sand if it wasn't for western inventions and ingenuity. There social structure is 2000 years in the past as well.

I don't claim that these insights are original, or new, and I certainly never claimed that nobody in Africa or the ME disagreed with the dominant culture. But that doesn't account for any of the questions I've asked, and brutal self-harm is still the ruling political philosophy of those regions, as it has been for thousands of years.

Why? Account for the fact that the ME and Africa have contributed almost nothing to science or culture for millennia. Why every movement to change that has failed. Why it is okay for an African to impose values on Africans, but not okay for a Canadian to impose new values on an African.

Please don't just sit there and prove you can recall names from college.

Things like ebola usually but not always start in crap hole countries. People can live in squalor and unsanitary conditions for so long before the natural world says " no more".
