Oh, and I doubt that "just" his debt was sold. Likely, the club sold their entire book of overdue bills to the company, and he's one of many.

Think of it this way - the typical lawyer is going to charge $200 per hour (going from top of my head here, so feel free to correct me). It'll take them 5+ hours to even draft a letter (research time is included in that). So, if the bill is even close to what the lawyers will charge, you can forget about them actively trying to collect.

very long story short I had student debt issues when I was just getting started in my career.....been stuck in a perpetual stalemate with debt-collectors ever since. they're not going to sue me, but can't work out a deal that fixes the default, so it gets repackaged and sold every 8 months.

sucks because I've been responsible on every other obligation.

Couldn't he also sue for threatening and harassment when the guy on the phone said we will see you in court? I can't remember the term for it.

1. Did you tell them you didn't fill out the form in writing? If not, fill out the f**k form and insist you sent it in.

2. Obviously get a copy of the bylaws. This shouldn't take a long time and you want to do that before you waste time talking to a lawyer (who will tell you they need to read the bylaws)

3. Hire a lawyer. They are good, honest people who will appreciate your business.

4. If the amount is small, anything under a few grand, just pay it because it will be cheaper in the long run that having a shitty credit score.

Directed an Eynon, but I'll answer (subject to Non's opinion, of course).

It'd be difficult in the extreme for him to sue. I mean, anyone CAN sue. But, winning? He'd have to prove that they maliciously tried to injure him. And, it'd be expensive. He'd have to sue for actual damages, plus put enough "fluff" in there to cover his own legal expenses.

Frankly, a single person's personal reputation simply isn't worth that much. A business? Sure. But, not a person.
