The process is the process. Regardless of your thoughts on its merits, the decision was made by grand jurors after reviewing all of the evidence in detail. It was submitted to every scrutiny and review a felony charge merits and rejected.
Even if you think it's wrong it's not an example of the government protecting its own. The decision should be respected. The protestors should recognize the importance of protections from the government taking your freedom in a criminal trial. That's a universally shared value IMO.
