the point of the grand jury is to stop unfounded accusations by the government, not to just allow everyone the prosecution brings up to be sent to trial.
according to multiple people, the kid was beating him in the face at one point and charging him at another. according to the officer, he was also trying to go for the gun. this is all consistent with the medical analysis.

Prof, consider what you said - the grand jury exists to speed up the process. Yet look how long this took. Is there any question if it was a civilian they would have just brought charges and let the evidence play out in a trial? The fact is that the grand jury was a total farce, because this prosecutor did not want to charge the cop but also couldn't be seen making that call himself, so he put together a GJ proceeding, dragged it out in an excessive manner and projected his will onto them - that Wilson would not go to trial.
