OK now that we've thoroughly covered all possibilities regarding the incident, here's one thing I don't get. Although maybe this is normal.
IIRC correctly, Wilson didn't give his statement until a month later.

I don't usually stick up for cops, but criticizing Wilson for doing his job and pursuing a violent criminal is absolutely idiotic. How is a police officer ever supposed to arrest anyone if they let every potentially dangerous suspect flee? Oh, and don't forget that Brown decided to turn around and charge at him. Wilson likely expected to chase after Brown, but Brown forced a fight.
