The centralization of power was necessary for capitalism and commerce to thrive throughout history. Commerce relies on opening up legal and cultural restrictions to turn a larger profit. From the rise of the nation-state to the destruction of the Old South, centralized authority and capitalism have been bedfellows, for better or worse. That's what makes many of these 'anarcho-capitalism rules, government sucks' posts so hilarious.
