Having a free floating currency that can adjust to market fundamentals and regulated via the federal reserve is far better for the economy and the world than a tie to an artificial good. Fiat currency allows our economy to be a large determinant of value and doesn't tie the central banks hands behind its back.

They've done what's necessary to stoke growth, stave off deflation, and increase US competitiveness. Their regulatory bodies need more overhaul though: fed bank observers are far too deferential.

so this is what i've gathered.
if fiat currency can't be permanently "fixed" (whatever the f**k that means) then it's bad. also, gold doesn't have problems apparently. nothing goes wrong with a gold standard.
