I also do not keep up with new games. I like shooters, like call of duty or halo. No idea what 90% of the new games are but are they anything like those categories of shooters?

Really really enjoy games like COD where I can get an awesome 10-15 hours out of the story mode and then play online. But I'm also a casual bro So i hate games like titan fall where i just get murdered in 5 seconds because a bunch of nerds who play 24/7 have 1000x kit upgrades and I'm using a f**k pistol or something.

Since your focused on sports and shooters, I think your probably exactly the demo MS is trying for.

The PS4 is by far the better seller, so far, but the Xbox is aimed more at the "DudeBro" gamers, with sports and CoD being front and center. You still get the shooters and sports on either platform. But for racing you really want Forza, and that's on Xbox. For the solid action-adventure stuff, like Uncharted and potentially The Order and such, you want PS4.

Basically it boils down to what you play, methinks, and which controller you prefer. The off center sticks on the xbox controller annoy the hell out of me, (since my arms aren't off-center) but a lot of people seem to prefer the layout. Yes, the PS4 is somewhat more powerful, but its not a big deal unless you scrutinize...and you don't seem like you do.

And kinect absolutely IS a joke. Skip it and get the cheaper model.

Actually, f**k this console war shit. Just buy both. You're an adult with a job, right? Its not like you have to pick one for xmas or something.
