That is an excellent point, which I've overlooked until you mentioned it.
The people in question here: the jihadists, the AQs, the ISIS... this isn't just "religious" belief over which they want tyranny, they want to impose sharia, which is more or less a form of government. Ok fine, laws, but on what do we base our gov't most often?
So what these guys want isn't just for you to be a Muslim, but for you to live under Muslim law and you to submit to them under their interpretation of said law (and their governance using it). And as we saw in Afghanistan during the Taliban glory days, their governing skills... yeah.
So this isn't just people exercising their "religious" beliefs--it's people wanting to impose both their religion AND their gov't ideology on us.
