I can think of very few things I would voluntarily turn in because government told me to. Weapons aren't even conceivably on that list.
But remember...for over 40 years it was illegal in the US to own gold bullion. People voluntarily lined up to sell it to the treasury like a bunch of doe eyed idiots.
So...hard to tell what people are willing to do.
