Taking vacations to random places never really made sense to me. I'd only go if I either spoke the language or had a good friend who did. With the latter, Hong Kong even for a day was awesome, without it I'm sure it would have sucked.
Even knowing the language though for me isn't enough, would rather spend at least a couple weeks in one place to get to know the environs and not be treated with utter contempt by locals trying to rip me off. Tourist spots generally have very little payoff. It's about the experience with friends mostly that makes it fun.
