Asia folks - is there a more interesting way from Beijing to Hong Kong then flying? Like a worthwhile train ride with a place worth seeing as a break in between? Seems like a super long train ride that would be boring or an even more boring flight that eats 7 hours of my life.

There is HSR between Beijing and Guangzhou which is just across the border from HK. 12 hour duration but I remember looking into that option and it wasn't much cheaper than flying anyway. And the train runs at night if I remember correctly.

I would just fly to Hong Kong for sure. But you could probably fly into BJ, train to Shanghai, and then fly to HK from there. I remember flights to HK bring much cheaper into and out of Shanghai than Beijing for some reason.

Flights to Macau are cheapest I think. I'm more worried about time than money though. I'll probably fly i'm just trying to avoid losing 7 hours or so to travelling when i already lose 2 days flyign in and out of SE asia.

Ahh well the train would take longer either way then. Just catch a late or early flight so it doesn't crush your day. China is f**k huge

dylan: 10 days, start in ely, then paddle to gunflint. have more than enough time to make it, so couple days can be just resting/fishing for your food

You must know some serious proles. Paris is a maybe a day if all you want to see is the Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame, otherwise it's certainly not a day.
