When I first heard about this I essentially enacted a reverse hypothetical in my mind: what if the Democrats had sent some shitty ass letter to Russia regarding Bush's executive actions abroad re diplomacy? At the end of it I concluded that there would've been murder on capitol hill.
I do not know whom the GOP is attempting to prove itself to anymore. Benjamin Netanyahu delivered a speech to Congress as invited by Boehner largely as a political maneuver in his own campaign back home. He appealed to his constituents fear of Iran and otherwise blew hot air up everyone's asses. He voiced platitudes, broke traditions, etc. He has even decided that the Palestinian state doesn't matter anymore and that he wishes to expand settlements further. And now this. Now a letter was sent by the GOP to a diplomatic party entering into negotiations with the US and other global peers regarding access to nuclear power as well as weapons.
It is wholly depressing that the GOP would either do this to grandstand at home or to subvert negotiations abroad which might herald a more beneficial Iranian relationship while we f**k off and left Saudi Arabia to its own mechanisms. Everything about Iran screams that we should be softening our approach with them and everything about Saudi Arabia says that it's a powder keg ready to explode. And yet here we are, acknowledging this bullshit.
Jeb Bush is a member of the GOP. Jeb Bush has indicated that he will not hesitate to use force when he deems necessary. I will never vote for that man. His economic policies as well as his plays for power notiwithstanding in Florida, his foreign policy sounds heavy handed and belligerent. I do not know for how long the GOP believes it can rely on the US military to win elections?
