The people here bitching about Thatchers policies don't realise that before 1979, people had to wait months on end for their own personal telephone, we had gravediggers to nurses on strike, we had a loan from the IMF due to our economic mismanagement, stagflation, and an unproductive labour force and a government which had to kowtow to Union power. We were the joke of Europe.

If people are complaining about Thatchers legacy, how about complaining about the years before she took office which allowed her and her right wing ideologues to take power? Thatcherism was necessary for the country to sort out the economic difficulties which had been dogging us since 1945.

He must be an old fashioned 'law 'n order' type of Tory. Most others would consider the concept of crushing freedom of speech on the grounds that it is offensive to someone else to be much more offensive...

And is this really a freedom of speech issue. If I were to consider protesting against the EDL, it wouldn't be to show that I think they shouldn't be allowed to say what they want. It would be more just to try and put up a greater show of force against their ideas than they put out in favour of it.
