What kind of "whateverism" will work in an industrialized finite world? Probably a combo of some of the "ism's" we already have. One thing probably for sure though. If we all can't learn to live together, we could possibly all die together.

It would have to be pretty rigidly enforced. I tend to think democracy would eventually erode socialism away. Stands in the way of profits. Property. Etc. People don't like that.

Well... What are you considering to be democratic socialidm? I look at places like Denmark or Sweden or Norway, and I see lots and lots of profit with lots and lots of socialism. There really isn't any inherent human desire for capitalism - that shit is taught, just like any other ism, and it is perfectly conceivable to imagine teaching socialism successfully, in much the same way.
