Eynon, the sad fact of human existence is that far more evil comes from banal sources than comes from villains of any stripe. In ignorance we have enacted policies that have caused mighty suffering and death throughout the world. Did we mean to do it? No, but it's still done. It has to be counted.

And I feel like you are missing much of what direct evil we have perpetrated out of what can only be termed as malice. We armed the Iraqis and the Iranians both and then fomented war between them etc, and we've done at least this much or more in Indonesia as two direct examples. And what about stuff like Freeport-McMoran's genocidal war for the gold mines at Irian Jaya? This stuff is day to day standard SoP all over the world.


It's why much of the world can be said to be anti-American. Neither the Nazis or the Stalinists have ever had our reach or power. And no matter how you slice power comes from the end of a gun.
