elephants are intelligent, this is true. for example, they have two distinct calls for danger: one for bees, and one for humans. but they can't reason. they can mimic, and they can use tools (which is the result of accident and mimicry), but they cannot reason the solution to problems out on their own, at least, i've never heard of such a thing. still, neither can retarded people.
farmers in the area live with elephants by ringing their crops with beehives. other more sophisticated devices can also be used. if they start doing crazy things like trampling a person to death that wasn't even hunting him and then have exploited dance happily on that man's grave for unknown reasons, then yeah, they should be culled. if the population is going out of control, or if bulls are acting in their own interests which endanger a population of them as a whole, then yeah, lets be caretakers.sustenance hunters, sure, although frankly im pretty sure they normally hunt smaller game. but okay, that's fine by me.
but the rest of us? if i was a citizen of those countries i would support not allowing them to be hunted for sport. but i ain't so i really don't care. but i will say this: no elephants in america should be hunted for sport
Americans learn only from catastrophe and not from experience. -- Theodore Roosevelt
My life has become a single, ongoing revelation that I haven’t been cynical enough.
