Nazi Germany is in the bag with WWII.
The other references have documented associated incidents of extreme brutality but the casualty figures for the inquisition and the crusades are not remarkable in comparison to the mass slaughters of modern times which routinely reach the 10s of millions.
The most peaceful era? Right now.

You have to scale this stuff relative to the times it happens in.
In the example of the 30 years war the population stood at around 400 million. There were 8 million casualties. If a war on that scale were to happen today there would be 140 million casualties!
Even WW2 doesn't begin to compare.
I don't know where people get this rosy picture of the past as being more civilized. It just wasn't. It alternated between bloodbath and fear and loathing for pretty much...all of history. There simply were never any "good ol days".
